I met the cellist Jen Bewerse at the 2009 Oregon Bach Festival Composer Symposium. Jen's lyrical playing and absolute intention when performing new music seemed to lend itself to the voice. When she asked if I wanted to write a new piece for her and Heather Barnes, I was thrilled. My wife Luiza and I were expecting our first child, and I was immediately drawn to Anne Bradstreet's affectionate and passionate poetry dealing with domestic life. In May 2011 the songs were premiered, one month before the birth of our son, Otto Eugene, to whom the work is dedicated.
